Sylvie Guillem at Athens Concert Hall vs Sylvie Guillem at Odeon of Herodus Atticus mark 1+!

Last night, while the band of John Bon Jovi was visiting the nearby Museum of Acropolis, Maria and I went to the Odeon of Herodus Atticus so as to watch only one of the brightest ballet stars in the world and the fact is that we were a bit disappointed…

The ticket was rather expensive for an one hour show involving only three dancers, without any settings or costumes and then it was the heat, largely magnified by the energy produced by thousands of people moving up and down their fans (we say it vendalia) in order to get a hint of fresh air.

On top of that, the first choreography, William Forsythe’s “Rearray”, although it was very interesting, as it seemed like stapling a series of small poems or fragments of human interaction in one duet that gave both dancers, Nicolas le Riche was her partner, an opportunity to unfold all their techniques and plasticity, featured such an irritating music, by David Morrow, like visiting a sadistic orthodontist or a psychological thriller where thousands of cats were scratching their nails on the floor. This choreography was I think the highlight of the evening, apart from the music of course!!! During Guillem’s break, the dancers that took the torch were ok, fine by me but nothing special, maybe they were trying to provoke us a bit, since the female dancer took her top off, and the fact that the audience tried too much to applause them insinuated I think that Sylvie’s first appearance wasn’t so magical as it used to be.

Her 2nd appearance was ok, nice, started with a video projection and never took off! Mild choreography, gentle music, rounded movement, something like yogurt, neither sweet nor sour, neither cold nor hot, likable but something was missing…

Now to call Sylvie Guillem’s appearance just good is of course blasphemy, but this happens only ‘cause when we saw her this winter in the city’s concert hall, in the show “Push & Solo, Shift, Two” with Russell Maliphant, she was amazing! In “Two” the game of lights in combination with the movements of her hands made her seem like the protagonist on Matrix inside the Matrix, while in “Push” with Maliphant as her partner she was mesmerizing and the result was so alluring that it made as forget we were on a ballet theatre, no we didn’t’ touch ourselves but it was so sexyyyy!

And that’s where the title comes from, Sylvie@ Athens Concert Hall ruledddd, Sylvie@ Odeon of Herodus Atticus hmmmmmm…
